Man sentenced to federal prison for helping distribute drugs that caused Dubuque death

A Chicago man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in federal prison for conspiring with others to distribute cocaine that resulted in the death of a Dubuque woman. 45-year-old Maurice L. Randolph recently received the sentence in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine within 1,000 feet of Dubuque parks and schools between 2017 and April 2021. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, on Feb. 14, 2021, one of Randolph’s co-conspirators distributed cocaine to a young Dubuque woman who used the cocaine and died. Randolph was sentenced to 292  months’ imprisonment, followed by eight years of supervised release. Randolph also must make $13,911 in restitution jointly with two other individuals to the victim’s family, and the court forfeited $17,203 in drug proceeds seized from Randolph.
