Hoo’s Woods Raptor Center in Milton admitted an adult female bald eagle from Montfort earlier this week after she was found running on the ground beneath a wind turbine, unable to fly. X-rays revealed fractures in her wing, which are difficult to treat because they’re close to the joint. The eagle’s, which they named Nova, prognosis for release remains uncertain. According to a Facebook post by the Raptor Center, it’s estimated that hundreds of thousands of birds, including eagles, are killed or injured in turbine collisions each year in the U.S. They shared Nova’s story as a reminder of the challenges wildlife face and the importance of responsible turbine placement.
The Raptor Center is also accepting donations to support the care of Nova through PayPal or by mail: PO Box 21, Milton, WI 53563.
