Dubuque City Council updates fireworks ordinance

The Dubuque City Council has approved an updated ordinance regarding recreational use of consumer fireworks within the city limits.  The updated ordinance reflects recent changes to Iowa law, which no longer allows municipalities to prohibit fireworks usage during daylight hours on July 3, July 4, and December 31.  

Under the updated ordinance, use of consumer fireworks is allowed within the Dubuque city limits: 

9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on July 3, 

9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4, and 

9 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on December 31. 

Consumer fireworks use remains prohibited within the Dubuque city limits on all other days of the year. Fireworks use will not be allowed on any public property, including streets, right-of-way, sidewalks, parks, trails, or open spaces.
