37-year-old Shon Dwayne Perkins has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for distributing fentanyl near a protected location in Dubuque. Perkins pleaded guilty in December to one count of this crime. Evidence showed that Perkins sold a fentanyl mixture, leading to a drug user developing necrosis and permanent scarring of the arms. Investigators say the sales took place near a protected area, compounding the severity of the offense. After serving his prison term, Perkins will undergo a six-year supervised release.
