On Wednesday, the City of Platteville received a resident concern of oversaturated ground with a strong sewage odor in the area of Deborah Court and West Golf Drive. Utility Superintendent Ryan Kowalski visited the site and confirmed the smell and standing water in a 4-foot area, despite it being 97°F with no recent rain. An emergency locate was called in and city crews began digging around 11 a.m. The 14.5-foot-deep force main was surrounded by rock, and a 12-inch crack in the pipe was found. Crews installed a repair band and successfully pressure-tested the line. At approximately 7:00 p.m., the hole was fenced off and crews returned to backfill it on Thursday, July 24.
