Peosta growers recently set a record in the Iowa State Fair’s Biggest Pumpkin Contest. Pete and Alba Caspers’ pumpkin weighed 1,409 pounds, breaking the old state fair record of 1,323 pounds, according to a press release. The release states that Martin Schnicker, of Mount Pleasant, took second place with a 552-pound pumpkin. Rusty Caspers, of Anamosa — who is Pete’s father — earned third place with an entry weighing 465 pounds.
