A Wisconsin lawmaker wants to make back-to-school shopping more affordable for families struggling with rising costs. Democratic Senator Brad Pfaff is pushing legislation to create a 3-day back-to-school sales tax holiday in Wisconsin. The bill would help families save money on essential items like clothing and school supplies by eliminating state and local sales taxes during the designated period. The proposed legislation follows similar programs in other states. Earlier this month, Iowa held its two-day school tax break, allowing shoppers to buy clothing and footwear under $100 without paying state or local sales tax. Currently, only 17 states offer sales tax holiday programs similar to what Pfaff proposes for Wisconsin. The senator acknowledges that the earliest the bill could take effect would be the 2026 school year.
