Jo Daviess man sentenced for 2022 fatal crash

An area man was sentenced to 30 days of periodic imprisonment, two years of probation and five months of electronic monitoring after police said his reckless driving led to the death of two passengers. 26-year-old Trey T. Thomas received the sentence in Jo Daviess County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. In Illinois, periodic imprisonment is an alternative sentencing program that allows offenders to work while serving a sentence. The charge stems from a one-vehicle crash on Jan. 8, 2022, on South Pleasant Hill Road in rural Elizabeth. Thomas caused the death of two of his passengers 21-year-old Wyatt Potter of Hanover and 21-year-old Rhett Geisz of Elizabeth, by driving his vehicle “at a speed which was greater than reasonable and proper with regard to the existing traffic conditions.” Thomas and a third passenger were injured and treated at an area hospital.
