The U.S. Army’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at the University of Dubuque will remain operational after Army officials revised plans that would have eliminated the program. The ROTC program offers students college scholarships and a path to a commission as an Army officer upon their college graduation. In June, an Army press release stated that UD’s program would be closed by the start of the 2026-2027 school year as part of a nationwide “strategic rebalance and optimization” of the program. Under the new plan, both UD and UNI will be considered extension units of the host unit at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. The transition will take place next summer and be finalized for the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
