Democratic State Senator Kelda Roys launched her campaign for Wisconsin governor, becoming the third high-profile Democrat to enter the race for the state’s top office. Roys, who represents the 26th Senate District covering the Madison area, previously ran for governor in 2018. Her entry into the race sets up a competitive Democratic primary alongside Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. On the Republican side, Waukesha County Executive Josh Schoemann and Milwaukee-area businessman Bill Berrien have also declared their candidacies. The primary election will take place on August 11, setting the stage for the general election campaign in November.
