On Tuesday, the Wisconsin State Assembly, recognized first responders from across Wisconsin during a First Responder of the Year. Chief Doug McKinley of the Platteville Police Department has been named the 49th Assembly District’s 2025 First Responder of the Year. He was selected by Representative Travis Tranel (R–Cuba City), with the concurrence of State Senator Howard Marklein (R–Spring Green). Chief McKinley has served the residents of Platteville and Southwest Wisconsin for 35 years. Rep. Tranel spoke about the award.
Along with providing each award recipient with a legislative citation recognizing their achievement, the state Assembly also passed a resolution declaring October 14th First Responders Appreciation Day.
