Construction of a new pool will start shortly at Platteville Family Aquatic Center. But right now, there is not much to look at. The Common Council on Tuesday unanimously authorized construction manager at Epic Construction to contract with Portzen Construction for the base construction and all alternate bids for the project. A little more than a month ago, the council authorized Epic Construction to contract with Owen’s Excavating to demolish the previous pool. At first, Platteville leaders approached their messaging cautiously, anticipating a 2027 opening for the new pool. However, as time has gone on, it became increasingly clear that a 2026 opening was feasible. Epic Construction owner Brad Bierman said the goal is to be open next summer by July 1, but cautions winter weather could impact that timeline.
