When the girls high school volleyball team at Community High School in Nevada, Texas, learned that their beloved janitor, Abel Rodriguez, had been walking to work every day, they decided to do something about it.
Abel is a cherished figure at the school, known for his constant encouragement, high fives, and contagious smile. He never misses a game and always makes sure every player steps on the court with a “good luck” and a dose of positivity.
So, the team partnered with a local car dealership and set up a GoFundMe page to raise enough money to get Abel a car. Within days, the community’s generosity poured in, helping the team raise over $9000.
More than 100 students, teachers, and parents gathered outside, waving signs and chanting Abel’s name. When he stepped outside and saw the surprise – a brand-new car waiting for him –he was visibly moved and overcome with emotion.
Abel spent years lifting up students with his positivity. Now, those same students – along with the entire community – have lifted him right back.
