Midwest grocery store chain Hy-Vee announced Tuesday it will donate $100,000 to Feeding America food banks in its region. In Dubuque, local Hy-Vees are running a donation drive through November 9 due to an increase in people needing the food pantry. Hy-Vee also gave $25,000 to DoorDash to waive delivery and service fees for customers that receive food assistance benefits. Hy-Vee says it’s part of the $70 million its given out in food this year. The donations come amid food security concerns during the government shutdown. Nearly 267,000 people in Iowa who rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be without food assistance unless lawmakers take action before the end of the month.
