President Donald Trump on Monday pardoned dozens of people who tried to file false documents in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election, including 10 Wisconsin Republicans. Trump’s pardon attorney Ed Martin published the pardon announcement in an early-morning post on social media. The pardons, importantly, do not affect state-level cases. Among those receiving pardons were Carol Brunner, Mary Buestrin, Darryl Carlson, Bill Feehan, Edward Scott Grabins, Andrew Hitt, Kathy Kiernan, Kelly Ruh, Bob Spindell and Pam Travis. That group of Wisconsin Republicans publicly admitted in 2023 to writing a document used to try and overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 win in the state. As part of a settlement, the group retracted the document, reaffirmed Biden’s victory and agreed to never again serve as a presidential elector in an election featuring Trump. In a social media post Monday, Republican Sen. Ron Johnson called the pardons “well-deserved.” Two attorneys and an aid accused in the plot — Jim Troupis, Kenneth Chesebro and Michael Roman — were also pardoned by Trump on Monday. However, that will not shield them from state-level prosecution.
