Platteville Common Council members have opted to fill an empty seat via appointment. The District 4 council seat has been vacant since Alderman Ken Kilian retired in October. Council members on Tuesday debated the pros and cons of two methods to fill the vacancy — holding a special meeting Tuesday, Dec. 2, to interview candidates and possibly make an appointment or holding a special election in April. Ultimately, the council voted unanimously on the appointment method, though they changed the date to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, to avoid conflict with board and commission meetings two days prior.
