Wisconsin will receive over $630,000 as part of a multistate settlement with Mercedes-Benz over allegations the German automaker sold vehicles equipped with illegal emissions defeat devices, Attorney General Josh Kaul announced Monday. The state joined a 48-state coalition that sued Mercedes, alleging the company used the devices to make vehicles appear to comply with emissions tests when, on the road, they actually broke emissions standards. The coalition and Mercedes reached a settlement of nearly $150 million, of which Wisconsin will get $630,854. As part of the settlement, Mercedes also agreed to pay out over $200 million in potential consumer relief.
