Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella are heading into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame, a milestone that adds another chapter to their decades-long career. The announcement came as part of this year’s NAACP Image Awards, which recognize achievements by Black artists and leaders across entertainment and culture.
The NAACP confirmed that the pioneering hip-hop group will be formally inducted during the ceremony. The honor places them alongside past Hall of Fame recipients whose work has left a lasting mark on music and the broader cultural landscape.
Salt-N-Pepa, formed by Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, with DJ Spinderella joining soon after, helped reshape rap music in the late 1980s and 1990s. With hits like Push It and Shoop, they brought women to the forefront of a genre that was still taking shape. Their music addressed independence, relationships, and self-expression at a time when few female voices had mainstream visibility in hip-hop.
