The Main Street bridge at Darlington is closed due to flooding. The river level has exceeded 15 feet making it necessary to close the bridge. This is the 7th time in the past two years it has flooded in Darlington. Main Street is also State Highways 23 and 81 and is the sole crossing point on the Pecatonica River in Darlington. Motorists wishing to cross from the north side of town to the south side of town, and vice versa must find an alternate route. Darlington Schools also closed Thursday because of the flooding. The National Weather Service predicts the river in Darlington will crest tonight (Thursday) around 7 pm at 16.1 feet. It will recede slowly throughout the day Friday. The Darlington Police Department hopes to reopen the Main Street bridge Friday night around 7 pm.
