The cafeteria at Southwest Tech was closed for a third day on Monday after a fire last Friday morning caused significant smoke damage to the facility. Officials at the Fennimore campus reported faulty wiring caused a dryer in an adjacent utility space to catch fire. Although the fire was contained to that room, the smoke damage spread to the kitchen and cafeteria seating area. No injuries were reported in the fire, which is still under investigation. With Southwest Tech being unable to provide cafeteria service since Friday, the college offered free breakfast and lunch on campus Monday. Officials hope to have limited food service on Tuesday using a kitchen run by Southwest Tech’s culinary program.
