A pair of former school district supervisors will split duties as interim superintendents for Galena. The Galena School Board has decided to appoint Steve Bianchetta and Craig Mathers to each serve in part time roles while the district searches for a new superintendent. The two men are temporarily filling a vacancy after the resignation of Greg Herbst. Bianchetta is a former superintendent of the Scales Mound school district and served as Galena’s interim superintendent four years ago following the death of Sharon Olds. Mathers served as superintendent of West Carroll school district for eight years before retiring in 2016. The two will work on separate days, but will coordinate to oversee the Galena district. Their contract runs thru the end of the school year.
