A proposed resolution in Lafayette County – that would create a review board to oversee information released from a water quality study – has been tabled for now. After revisions and disputes about what items the resolution would contain, Lafayette County Board Supervisors decided to delay action until its next meeting in December. A draft resolution was passed by the county Land Conservation Committee earlier in the day on Tuesday for the county board to vote on last night. An earlier version of the resolution was made public last week that had language stating the county would prosecute journalists who selectively report on the study’s findings. That section was taken out of a proposal passed by the Land Conservation Committee. However, the resolution that went before the full county board did threaten disciplinary action to any board member, committee member, county official or county employee who made public statements on the study without getting prior authorization from the newly formed review board. Some county officials say their main concern is preventing the premature release of partial information in regards to a water quality study that’s being done in Lafayette, Grant and Iowa Counties.
