A woman from Darlington was arrested Sunday night after hitting an Amish buggy with her vehicle. A deputy with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department responded to Highway 126 near Belmont for a hit and run to an Amish buggy. 56 year old Jeanne Halvorson of Darlington was traveling south on Highway 126 when she struck the Amish buggy and failed to stop. Halvorson was cited for OWI, Hit and Run, Failure to Notify Police of Accident, Vehicle Owner’s Liability for Striking an Attended Vehicle and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. Halvorson was arrested for Criminal Damage to Property and was taken to the Lafayette County Jail where she remains in custody. The Belmont Fire Department, Belmont EMS, Darlington Police Department and Lafayette County Highway Department assisted at the scene. No details have been reported on the occupants of the buggy.
