Officials with the Southwestern School District in Hazel Green have finalized their fall re-opening plans. According to an email from school Superintendent John Costello, the school board has voted to have students in 4K through 4th grade attend classes in-person 5-days-a-week. Students in 5th through 12th grade will use a hybrid of in-person and online instruction. Costello says the goal is to get everyone back for classes, but wanted to begin with a hybrid model and ease into 5 full days a week for all students.
Southwestern’s football team (which moved to the Six Rivers during a realignment plan) will play its games in the spring. That move follows a recommendation voted on by conference members this week. As for its volleyball season, Southwestern will hold those matches this spring too. They compete in the SWAL’s volleyball conference which is set to vote Friday on how it will handle fall sports. Costello says that regardless of the SWAL’s action, Southwestern will move volleyball to the spring.
