‘We need to get people to understand that we are humans too’: Green Bay’s MVS responds to death threats following fumble

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Green Bay Packers lost their third game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in overtime.

The Packers won the toss in overtime and elected to receive the ball.

On that possession, Green Bay receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught a pass from Aaron Rodgers, and then fumbled the ball inside Green Bay’s own 30 yard-line.

That fumble led to a game-winning field goal by the Colts.

Following the loss, Valdes-Scantling tweeted that he had received death threats following his first fumble of his career.

“Obviously I wasn’t fearful of my life or anything, that’s never the case. It was more so that we need to get people to understand that we are humans too. We aren’t just a number on a jersey, we are people first,” said Valdes-Scantling during a news conference on Monday.

He said that he isn’t fazed by those who give him criticism.

“Social media gives cowards the right to say whatever they want with no consequences and so I guess that’s one of those things with the profession we are in, you have to take it for what it is,” said Valdez-Scantling.

Valdez-Scantling’s teammates came to his defense on Twitter and offered their support.

Before the fumble, Valdez-Scantling caught a 47-yard pass from Rodgers late in the fourth quarter.

That would keep the drive alive and would lead to a field goal that sent the Packers and Colts game into overtime.

The week prior, Valdez-Scantling had a career game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He caught four passes for 149 yards and one touchdown.

During his press conference on Monday, Valdez-Scantling said his goal is to get better every day.

“It’s all about growth; it’s all about getting better and being better every day, being the best version of yourself. As long as I’m being a better vision than I was the day before, that’s all I care about,” said Valdez-Scantling.

The Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field on Sunday night.
