Aaron Rodgers skips mandatory Packers minicamp

GREEN BAY — As expected, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not attending a mandatory minicamp that began Tuesday morning in Green Bay.

Rodgers’ no-show means he is officially a holdout and could be fined for every day he misses. It was also expected, after an offseason in which reports of Rodgers’ unhappiness with the team’s front office became public knowledge.

In his only interview on the subject, Rodgers told ESPN’s SportsCenter that his objection is over how the team is being run, and his absence doesn’t have anything to do with his teammates or fans.

“It’s just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go,” Rodgers said. “It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”

Rodgers has denied he’s upset that the team picked quarterback Jordan Love — his possible replacement — with their first-round pick in 2019.

“I love Jordan, he’s a great kid,” Rodgers told ESPN. “[It’s been] a lot of fun to work together. Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay.”

Rodgers also skipped optional workouts last month, but this is the first mandatory team activity he hasn’t attended.

According to CBS Sports, Rodgers could lose more than $35 million if he decides to hold out the entire season instead of retiring or returning to the team.
