The City of Lancaster recently received two grants from the Lancaster Community Fund to increase recreational opportunities in the city. The first grant put $15,000 toward the construction of a new batting cage, with Lancaster Youth Baseball/Softball Association raising $15,000 to match. The money will be used to replace the existing batting cage. The second, a $9,000 grant, will go toward a new ice rink for the city to set up each winter for hockey and ice skating. City staff will provide labor and maintenance. In addition, Lancaster EMS was awarded nearly $15,000 from the Douglas and LuAnne Pink Family Charitable Endowment Fund as well as the Lancaster Community Fund for the purchase of new portable radios for the new digital communications system. All of the grants were presented during Night on the Square last Thursday.
