Officials in Dyersville believe a house fire last week might have been caused by an electrical malfunction. In a report, Dyersville Fire Chief Jeremy Honkomp said investigations resulted in a “possible determination” of an electrical malfunction in one of the home’s ceiling fans. No one was injured in the fire, but Honkomp said he believed the home would be a complete loss. The fire occurred on July 20th at a residence on Fifth Street NE. Firefighters responded to the call at about 5:50 p.m. and got the flames under control within 10 to 15 minutes of arriving on the scene. The homeowner was in the back of the house and heard a “loud bang.” By the time the homeowner got to the front of the house, flames had already erupted out of the front windows.
