Platteville bus and taxi fares will increase as of January 1st following across-the-board increases in fuel and other transportation-related costs. Platteville Common Council members unanimously approved to the fare increases for 2023 following a public hearing last week during which no members of the public spoke. According to a report, under the new rates, the taxi will cost $5 per ride for adults and $4.50 per ride for those older than 65, people with disabilities and children. This year, those rates are $3 and $2.75, respectively. There will also will be additional charges for intermediate stops and multiple riders. The bus now will cost $2 per ride instead of $1, and the monthly price for unlimited rides will be $40, up from $25. Ridership will remain free with a University of Wisconsin-Platteville student ID, as the university funds the majority of the local bus costs.
