Representative Travis Tranel of Cuba City says he would like the Wisconsin State Legislature to address a lack of funding for local governments in rural areas in the upcoming legislative session. Tranel was re-elected in November to the Wisconsin State Assembly to represent the 49th District and will be serving his seventh term. Tranel said he particularly is interested in helping township governments with town roads. He said it will be difficult to do without raising taxes because residents of the 49th District tell him they are not interested in getting rid of levy control. State law mandates levy limits on local units of government including school districts, counties and municipalities. Local governments can go to referendum to ask residents if they can exceed those limits. Tranel said roads are a key issue facing town governments because agricultural equipment keeps getting bigger and bigger.
