Two people have stepped forward to fill an open seat on the Platteville Common Council. Platteville residents Lucas Dresden and Bob Gates have both applied for the open District 3 seat, which has been empty since mid-April when former office-holder Barb Daus resigned to move into the District 2 seat. Dresden is a resident director at University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and Gates is a retired school counselor. Both are District 3 residents. According to Platteville City Manager Clint Langreck, Council members tentatively are set to interview the candidates on July 11. Members would then discuss the applications and appoint the selected candidate at a later date. Whoever assumes the role will serve until the end of Daus’ original term in April 2024. The seat then will be up for election for a typical three-year term.
