Just before 11pm Thursday, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a UTV crash on Cannon Road near Buckwheat Ridge Road in the Township of Ellenboro. The Grant County dispatch center received an automated notification via cell phone, alerting deputies to the possible crash. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a crashed 2016 Polaris UTV, with the driver, identified as 44 year old Benjamin Fowler of Lancaster, pinned by his arm under the vehicle’s roll bar. Deputies successfully lifted the UTV, freeing Fowler. After a medical assessment, it was determined that no medical assistance was needed. Deputies then began an investigation into the incident, and Fowler was placed under arrest for operating a UTV under the influence of alcohol. Fowler declined transportation and treatment for his injuries. Fowler had been traveling north on Cannon Road when he lost control of the UTV while negotiating a curve, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its side. As a result of the investigation, Fowler was cited on multiple charges, including operating a UTV under the influence, refusal to provide a requested sample, and operating a UTV in a careless manner.
