A two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 81 at Jentz Baker Road in Grant County Thursday around 11:35am. Multiple people were injured in the crash. According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, 47 year old Kristina Steiner of Platteville was driving her vehicle west on Highway 81, approaching the intersection. Two minors, both her children, ages 16 and 13, were with her. At the same time, 62 year old Du Wayne Lynch of Platteville, was driving his vehicle on Jentz Baker Road at the stop sign at Highway 81. 57 year old Darren Hogan of rural Platteville, was in the front passenger seat of his car. A witness to the crash was driving directly behind the Steiner vehicle. The witness told an investigating deputy that, as Steiner’s vehicle was approaching the intersection, Lynch’s vehicle pulled out in from the stop sign, in front of Steiner. Steiner reportedly swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid hitting Lynch’s vehicle but was not able to do so. Steiner’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Lynch’s vehicle, with both vehicles coming to rest in the road, blocking both lanes of Highway 81. Steiner and her 16-year-old child were taken to a local hospital with the child later being transferred to a Madison hospital. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Platteville Fire Department, Southwest Health EMS, Lancaster EMS, UW-Platteville Police Department, SOS Road Rescue of Platteville, and Arrow Towing of Lancaster. The crash remains under investigation.
