A Grant County Farm has been announced as the recipient of a grant from USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program or known as REAP. Tranel Family Farms LLC will use a grant of almost $220,000 to install a small solar electric array. The project is expected to save the farm just over $32,000 in electrical costs per year and replace 320,000 kilowatt hours per year. That is 76 percent of the farm’s energy use per year, which is enough to power 29 homes. The grant will cover a portion of the cost. It will be installed on the free stall roof.
A dairy farm in Vernon County was awarded about $32,000 and a Crawford County business received almost $19,000 in REAP funding.
