An area man has been sentenced to 20 days in jail for eluding Dubuque County law enforcement. 20-year-old Dean S. Nelson of Peosta, recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to one count of eluding. Nelson also must serve two years of probation. Court documents state that a Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department deputy observed a motorcycle without a registration plate traveling west on U.S. 20 near the intersection with Old Highway Road on May 30. The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist sped away, traveling 116 mph in a 65-mph zone, documents state. Law enforcement later apprehended Nelson.
