Deer hunters will head out this weekend across Wisconsin as the nine-day gun deer season gets underway Saturday. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday that hunters may see fewer deer relative to recent years, when the seasons opened earlier. The DNR noted this season is the latest nine-day window within which the season may happen, according to state law, and ends on Dec. 1. Hunters should remain optimistic though, as the DNR said factors such as cold weather and snow cover could create great hunting condition. The mild winter last year also means fawn production and antler development is expected to be better than in previous years.
