Rep. Pocan introduces new bill named after Elon Musk

Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02) is taking aim at Elon Musk with a new bill that would bar “special government employees” from holding federal contracts. The Eliminate Looting of Our Nation by Mitigating Unethical State Kleptocracy (ELON MUSK) Act would see federal agencies end any contract held by a special government employee. A similar ban exists for members of Congress as well as some federal employees in order to prevent potential conflicts of interest. The White House has named Musk as a special government employee as he heads up the newly-created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Since joining Trump’s administration, DOGE staff received “read only” access to the Treasury Department.
