Now that Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers proposed several increases to K-12 funding in his budget address Tuesday night, Southwest Wisconsin educators are hopeful to receive more help from Madison. Evers’ proposed 2025-2027 budget, which he labeled as “the most pro-kid budget in state history,” includes more than $3.1 billion in general and categorical aids for K-12 public schools statewide. Some of this would go toward raising per-pupil funding across the next two fiscal years and tying the state’s per-pupil revenue limits for school districts to inflation. Aside from general aid, Evers also proposed investments into specific school services, such as increasing the state’s reimbursement rate for special education and investing in comprehensive mental health care in schools statewide.
