Western Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) says a federal judge should be impeached. Republican Derrick Van Orden has filed a resolution accusing New York federal judge Paul Engelmayer of abuse of power. Engelmayer temporarily blocked an executive order for Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to access Treasury records. His ruling was the order created a risk of releasing sensitive data. Van Orden’s resolution argues Engelmayer’s is biased against the president. Carl Tobias, the chair of the University of Richmond’s School of Law told Courthouse News the resolution is a “waste of taxpayer money.” 15 federal judges have been impeached in U.S. history, and eight were convicted on charges related to bribery or perjury. Van Orden is the resolution’s only sponsor. A House majority is needed to impeach a judge, and a two-thirds Senate majority is needed to convict and remove a judge.
