A home in rural Darlington suffered “significant damage” in a Thursday night house fire. Darlington Fire Department and Lafayette County EMS first responded to the fire at 9:43 p.m. Thursday on Roller Coaster Road, according to a Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department news release. There were no injuries reported in the incident, but the residence did receive “significant damage.” Darlington Fire Chief Brien Cleary said a garage was a total loss but the rest of the house is still standing, but with smoke and water damage. Cleary said it is unclear if the house will be declared a total loss. Cleary confirmed the two residents of the house were home at the time. He said first responders were able to contain the fire fairly quickly and it did not spread throughout the entire residence. An outdoor grill being used earlier in the night was the likely cause of the fire. Argyle, Gratiot and Wiota fire departments also responded to the scene, as did the Darlington Police Department, Alliant Energy and sheriff’s deputies.
