On Wednesday the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 151 near Airport Rd. The investigating deputy learned that 38-year-old McKenzie Short of Maquoketa, IA, was driving north on Highway 151. At the same time, 46-year-old Pedro Duran-Landa of Shullsburg was driving west on Airport Rd, and stopped at the stop sign for the intersection with Highway 151. Short was in the right lane of Highway 151 as she approached Airport Rd. Duran-Landa did not see Short’s vehicle and he pulled out from the stop sign into her path. Short attempted to swerve and brake to avoid colliding with Duran-Landa’s vehicle but was not able to do so. The front ends of both vehicles collided, causing disabling damage to both of them. Short was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. Duran-Landa, and all three of his passengers, were wearing seatbelts and were uninjured in the crash. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dickeyville Fire Department, and Dickeyville EMS. Duran-Landa was cited for Operating Without License 2nd Offense, Fail to Yield Right-of-Way from Stop Sign, and Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance.
