Police said three men have been arrested on charges related to opening a Dubuque bank’s ATM and removing tens of thousands of dollars in a criminal operation known as “jackpotting.” 21-year-old Christian G. Canas-Gomez, 38-year-old Ysmael Martinez-Jimenez, and 22-year-old Jhonger Suarez of no known addresses, were arrested at approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dubuque Law Enforcement Center, each on warrants charging first-degree theft, second-degree criminal mischief and ongoing criminal conduct. Court documents state that the men attempted similar thefts at multiple bank ATMs in eastern Iowa. When their arrest warrants were issued, the men were being held at the Linn County Correctional Center in Cedar Rapids under the authority of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The men are to be returned to the custody of immigration officials when the case is concluded. Dubuque police began their investigation of the men on May 27, when authorities responded to Fidelity Bank & Trust for a report of an ATM that had been forced open. An investigation determined that $33,600 had been fraudulently withdrawn from the machine, a type of crime known as jackpotting.
