After 21 years with ASM Global, the city decided to call for a revised contract with greater incentives for success. ASM chose not to submit a bid, leaving the city to choose between Oak View Group, which manages the Grand River Center, and VenuWorks. A selection committee recommended Oak View Group, which the City Council earlier approved. The management agreement includes incentives to bolster relationships with local civic groups as well as provide shared revenue guarantees if Oak View can reduce the $1.2 million annual operating subsidy. The new contract takes effect on July 1.
