Authorities ID man found dead following Grant County altercation

A man in Grant County has died following a bar altercation last month. 65-year-old Jeffrey Cornell of Fennimore, was transported to Crossing Rivers Health Center in Prairie Du Chien and later transferred to Gundersen Medical Center in LaCrosse. Cornell was found dead in his Fennimore home on June 30 after being released from the hospital Cornell was taken to UW-Hospital in Madison for an autopsy. The sheriff’s office is working with the Grant County Coroner’s Office and UW-Hospital to determine cause and manner of death. This process could take several weeks to complete, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s office. 34-year-old Jason Britton of Colona, Ill., was taken into custody and booked into the Grant County Jail for one count of disorderly conduct. Britton posted bond and was later released This incident remains under investigation, and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office is still requesting that anyone with information pertaining to this incident contact them.
