An Illinois state senator who represents Jo Daviess County will seek re-election next fall. Illinois Sen. Andrew Chesney of Freeport has announced that he will run for a second Senate term in 2026, according to a press release. Chesney was first elected to Illinois Senate District 45 in 2022, after having represented Jo Daviess County in the Illinois House of Representatives since 2019. Chesney already faces a challenger in Galena, Ill. resident Joe Berning, a Democrat, who previously announced his campaign for the 45th district.
