Clothing retailer Shein removed a controversial advertisement featuring an individual strongly resembling suspected UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter Luigi Mangione. The ad showed a man who looks strikingly similar to Mangione modeling a $11.69 men’s floral shirt, which nearly sold out. Shein claimed the image was provided by a third-party vendor and was removed once discovered. The company stated it is “conducting a thorough investigation” and will “take appropriate action.” Many speculate the image was created using artificial intelligence, as Mangione has been incarcerated since 2024 for murder, terrorism, and stalking charges. Mangione’s lawyers have not commented on the incident, though a judge recently granted him access to a laptop to prepare for his trial, where federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
