A residential fire in Dubuque’s North End displaced five people and caused about $60,000 in damage Thursday, authorities said. The Dubuque Fire Department responded Thursday evening to a report of an oven fire at a residence on Edith St. Responders arrived and found smoke coming from the peak of the roof. The fire then blew out the windows in the kitchen and living room. The fire was extinguished within five minutes and firefighters used fans to eject “a large volume of smoke.” Crews remained on scene for 2½ hours. The fire was determined to be accidental due to unattended cooking oil being heated on the stove top. According to a press release, three children and two adults evacuated the house safely. No injuries were reported. The home was determined to be uninhabitable, and the American Red Cross is assisting the occupants.
