Sony Pictures has secured screen rights to develop a feature film based on Labubu, the popular Chinese collectible doll brand. The studio aims to create a movie and potential franchise around the cute-ugly monster figurines. No producer or filmmaker is currently attached to the project, which was just signed this week. It remains unclear whether the film will be live-action or animated. Artist Kasing Lung originally designed Labubu, with Chinese retailer Pop Mart taking over production in 2019. The toys gained massive popularity through blind-box packaging and celebrity endorsements, particularly from Blackpink member Lisa who used them as accessories in 2024. (Story URL)
