Thursday afternoon the Dubuque Fire Department responded to a fire at Ditmer Recycling after an employee reported smoke coming from a large pile of recycling material inside the building. The fire was located in a large pile of recycling material measuring approximately 20 feet high, 60 feet long, and 50 feet deep within a large industrial building and zero visibility. Extensive overhaul operations were performed and a Dittmer employee used a loader to remove portions of the material. Damage was contained to the recycling material. The fire was extinguished before damaging the structure or the equipment in the building.
