Southern Wisconsin’s favorite shortcut is back open. The Merrimac Ferry resumed operations Tuesday, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said. The ferry runs for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (weather permitting). It brings travelers from Okee in Columbia County across the Wisconsin River to Merrimac in Sauk County. According to WisDOT, the ferry made 39,734 crossings last year, carrying 208,823 vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.
